Saturday Apr 07, 2018
Well, we are a few days late getting this thing out, but the music is still just as good. We start with a healthy dose of Sunday morning prog, then build up to some new stuff and heavier material. This was a brief respite from our slow cascading review of years gone by, but next week we will again plumb the depths, investigating the year 2007.
There are a few glitches here, a couple of spaces of dead air, but bear with it. Your patience at these moments will pay off.

Prog in 1997
Tuesday Mar 20, 2018
Tuesday Mar 20, 2018
Yes 1997 was a good year for progressive rock. We did not play it all, and that is a bit sad, but with so many offerings it was almost impossible to pare it down to anything sensible. Nevertheless, I made a go of it.
Next time we travel through time we will be seeing the music of 2007. That may be next episode, it may not. We also have a request from Brandon to do a Beatleesque show, and we would like to bring our friends Mike and Liz back for something a little more spontaneous. We will spin the wheel and see what happens. Nevertheless, we will be back in 2 weeks.

Tuesday Mar 06, 2018
Tuesday Mar 06, 2018
This time around we explore the year 1987 as we ramp up to the best of 2017. Prog was not much of an overflowing cup in 1987 but what there was you will find here. Despite the lack of prog, I remember 1987 well and as this show will make clear, there was a lot of good music emerging at the time. 1987 is not quite the death throes of new wave but perhaps the luster lost some of its shine, while other bands remained true to their vision. At any rate, there is something here for all fans of music.

Wednesday Jan 24, 2018
Last year we began a new tradition. Not only would we look back at the year, but we would go back decades before in order to carve a swath through prog development. We are doing this again this year. We start with a review of 1977. It was incredibly hard to pick favorites, and for the most part I daresay we brought more of the obscure out of the year, but we uncovered hidden gems, and offered a taste of the music that was being released in 1977.

Soundscape archive- A Star Wars Christmas Celebration
Monday Dec 18, 2017
Monday Dec 18, 2017
This is episode 2.26 so I believe it is a 2 years ago Christmas episode. That happened during the release of The Force Awakens. It may not be the best Star Wars episode we have done...that may even be somewhere in the future, but it at least ties our holidays together.
Happy Sithmas!

Soundscape 2.62 Happy Progsgiving
Monday Nov 27, 2017
Monday Nov 27, 2017
I initally started with a set of music that was about being thankful, but that was not the prog I was thankful for. So instead I opted for a theme that was full of upbeat messages and tunes. I wanted the antithesis of the bleeding heart angst show we did last time around. I think you will find that we sculpted a pretty incredible mix of music, complete with some newer pieces to insure we are keeping our feet in the future and the past. So this Thanksgiving, I am thankful for all the amazing musicians who direct our attention into the musical crags and peaks of the soundscape. I am also thankful for the listeners here who heave been with us for 12 years or have just started the journey. In the midst of all this thankfulness, I am thankful to be working my way to fatherhood, and of course I am thankful for Suzi who suports me in this crazy life journey.
Next time around, we will have a library episode inspired by Isaac Asimov. I am really looking forward to that research, though to be honest, I think I have only ever read short stories and The Robots of Dawn. Well, if you have suggestions please send them to soundscape@progrock.com We will gladly accept your input.

Soundscape 2.61 On the Verge
Tuesday Nov 14, 2017
Tuesday Nov 14, 2017
Its a simple enough theme, yours truly succumbs to a weakness that is portrayed throught the guise of the song. As your humble DJ and Soundscape propeitor is on the verge of turning 50, having a child, stressed out from work, and getting ready for a presentationm the music herein mirrors that mood. Angst, anxiety, dread, fear and frustration, all are laid bare in this rather autobiographical moment. Nevertheless, the prog must flow and if you care to dip into the pool, its not as dark as it may sound and it does have a happy ending of sorts.
